My mom was always the one to remember birth dates and anniversaries. Up until her last days, her brain was still very sharp. She could remember more then I ever could, even three weeks before she passed. She joked about it one day with me and said "I can still remember the answers to Jeopardy trivia even with my chemo brain, it just takes me a little longer". For my birthday, I could always count on her to remember by calling and sending a card with some money in it, no matter how old I was getting. Last year (before she was diagnosed), I remember she saw my apartment for the very first time. She stopped by after visiting and eating dinner with her friend. I had just moved in (by myself for the very first time) and I hardly had any furniture. My place was bare. I had just got done cooking dinner. We sat in my chairs (I didn't have a couch yet) and we talked, while I ate on my lap, because I didn't have a dining room set or a coffee table yet. My mom told me it was a very cute place and I would get furniture in time, and not to rush. A few days later, it was my Uncle's wedding and after the reception she hands me a card (with of course money in it) and said, "Wait...I have something for you in my car". I walked over with her to her car trunk and out she pulls two black and silver (the colors of my new place) folding tables. I was so happy, and so excited I had tables to eat on now. She was so cute for taking the time out to find me matching folding tables in the couple of days that she had here in Michigan. Again, as most mothers are...she was right, my place is now fully furnished. The best part is, I have an ottoman in front of my couch instead of a coffee table and even now when I want to eat and watch TV, instead of eating at the dining table.....I still pull out those folding tables to eat and it reminds me of her every time.
